Beth, You have embarked on a journey which has been my dream for decades. To travel from the Atlantic to the Pacific by auto on back roads and just almost unknown two lane roads has long been my secret desire!!!!! To see our hugh, beautiful, welcoming U.S of A is on my Bucket List - - - but - - - - reality tells me it will never happen for me but I shall vicariously travel cross country with you and Chele. I'm already having fun with you. I have one request, I know you have certainly already eaten Marguerite's homemade Italian fig & iced anise cookies - but I would really like to try them. Recipe??????
Love you, gal!!!!!!! Aunt V - - - -

Another fact check. It is true that the type of Native American headdress that you show is associated with the Native American tribes of the plains. Many other tribes had headdresses of great diversity.

As far as the rationale about getting caught in tree boughs, that is only true for those tribes that arrived at that conclusion because they lived in regions where they were able to observe that there were two breeds of deer in their area: the ones with antlers that could only be found in the open fields and the antlerless variety that were the only ones found in the forests.

Probably too late. But. Worked out of Pecos, NM for the USFS. Pecos Wilderness Area. Ten years ago. Trail crew. And out of Las Vegas, on occasion - Hermit's Peak area - probably too cold and snowed in - but Hermit's Peak, you can see far past the horizon across the high desert southward. Anyway. Pecos - nice restaurant, small, just south of the Ranger station. North of the Cowboy Church (never been there). South of Adelo's. I lived up the valley from Pecos near the wilderness trailhead. Anyway. Nice folks. I still keep my money in the Las Vegas Bank.

It's good to know somebody is checking facts- I always wondered why people would look surprised and say "Really? I've never heard of that" after my referring to Methodist Episcopalians. And even with my limited knowledge of of the church of England, I did know that this was a big one. And what that had to do with Methodists always kind of confused me. So, back to the top of this post--'the mind can operate (in this case for years) in opposition to common sense.'
